Lagos Mechanical Business Luncheon: Innovation, R&D as a Tool to Industrialisation and Economic growth to take centre stage

Nigerian Socio Economic Challenges are many and various propositions to address it have been regularly advanced. The engineering community as responsible member of the society is not left behind. The NIMechE Lagos under the leadership of Engr Segun Fadeyi is dedicating this year Business Mechanical Luncheon to Economic growth and industrialization.

On August 11 2018 the Nigerian mechanical Engineers along with their associates and policy makers will converge on Victoria Island, at National Engineering Centre, Lagos from 11a.m. prompt as the Lagos Chapter of the Institution organizes its 2018 Annual Mechanical Business Luncheon.

The Chairman of the Chapter, Engr Segun Fadeyi is pleased to invite the general public to attend this event and join us as we explore the Technical Innovation, R & D as vital tools to Indistrialisation and Economic Growth with Engr Abdul Wahab Ogunbiyi as the Keynote Address.

Engr Ogunbiyi, the Director, Research and Development, Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure will speak on; Technical Innovation, Research and Development as a Tool to Industrialisation and Economic growth. He is arguably the most Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Lagos State Civil Service and will be sharing his wealth of experiences and perspectives gathered over the years in Engineering, R & D and Policy Making with the engineering family along with other members of the public and policy makers as we chart a path toward National and regional industrialization and Economic growth.

Expected at the event is the National Chairman of the Institution, Engr Dr. Ejilah Robinson who will chair the event. Others are H.E. Mrs Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals who is the the Special Guest of Honour.

Profile of the 2018 Keynote Speaker, Engr Abdul Wahab Ogunbiyi, FNSE, FNIMechE
Engr AbdulWahab Ogunbiyi, a COREN registered Engineer, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a Fellow and past Chairman of the Environment Division, Nigerian Society of Engineers and a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
He holds B. Eng. (Mech.) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1986); M.Sc. (Met. & Mat.) University of Lagos (2003) and now, PhD student, University of Lagos. He also has Certificates in (i) AutoCAD 2006 Essential (ii) AutoCAD 3D and (iii) Autodesk Inventor Professional (mechanical) from Autodesk Inc.

Ogunbiyi has 30 years working experience as a Machines/Equipment Maintenance Engineer, an Administrator and a Research & Development Engineer. He has, in the course of his engineering career, designed and fabricated Shredding and Pulverizing Machines (produced); Road/Street Sweeping Machines (produced); Interlocking Brick Making Machine (produced); Hand Operated Fruits Juice Extractor (produced); Hot Air Rotary Fish Drying Plant (produced); Lagoon Weeds and Wastes Harvesting Boat (design); and E- Waste Materials Treatment Plant (design).

He has written and presented over seventeen (17) technical papers at different fora both in Nigeria and abroad.

Engr Ogunbiyi’s brilliance and dedications have earned him many awards some of which are: Lagos State Productivity Award, Lagos State Government Officer of the Year Award, 1986/1987 Service year Lagos State NYSC Merit award; 1986 Best student technical paper award in the Mechanical Engineering Department, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria etc
