The Nigerian Academy of Engineering under the leadership of Engr. (Mrs) J. O. Maduka FIET, FNSE, FAEng, MFR is has announced the Investiture of its 10 President, Prof. Fola Lasisi FNSE, FAEng, FASCE, FNIM. The event which will also include the 2018 Academy Technology Dinner, Public Lecture and fellowship induction is  as scheduled below:

ABOUT ENGR. PROF. FOLA LASISI FNSE, FASCE, FAEng, FNIM

Nigerian Academy of Engineering to Swear in Prof. Fola Lasisi as its 10th PresidentProfessor Rasaki Afolabi LASISI, better known as Fola LASISI was born on 23rd February, 1943 in Odosenlu – Alaro, near Ijebu – Ode, in the now Ijebu North – East Local Government Area of OGUN STATE, NIGERIA. His parents were community leaders in their time.

He attended Yaba Technical Institute for Secondary Education where he finished with distinction in June, 1962. He was awarded the African Scholarship Program of American Universities (ASPAU) in July, 1963 with O’Level in GCE to University of Washington, Seattle to study Civil Engineering. He graduated in June, 1966, spending only 3 years; awarded the Master’s degree in Structures on the University Fellowship, a year later in 1967. He later proceeded to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, sponsored by the University of Ife and USAID in 1972, where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Engineering in September, 1974. He became a Professional Engineer (USA) in 1972 and a Registered Engineer (COREN) in 1974.

Between June, 1966 and September, 1969, Prof. LASISI worked as a design Structural Engineer with Marshall, Barr & Pacquer, Inc. Seattle, Washington. He returned to Nigeria in October, 1969 to join the University of Ife as Lecturer II. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor in October, 1984. At Ife, he was the Acting head of Dept. of Agricultural Engineering, between 1977 and 1981; served in many committees, especially those involved in the physical development of the campus. He was a member of the committees that developed the Agricultural and Civil Engineering Programmes. He was Chairman, UNIFECS – [Obafemi Awolowo University Consultancy Services] – 1989 to 1992.

In the Professional Practice, Prof. LASISI became a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in 1975, a Fellow in 1989. The OAU., Ile – Ife Branch of the NSE was inaugurated in 1983, and Prof. LASISI became the First Branch Chairman between 1983 and 1985. He has been a Council Member of NSE and Technical Secretary of the Civil Engineering Division. Prof. LASISI has acquired a wealth of professional experience in: Construction, Engineering Design, and Structural Analysis.

Prof. LASISI has published extensively in national and international journals, covering Studies on Use of Local Materials in Construction, Structural Analysis and Engineering Designs. He has been Chairman of Ogun State Agricultural Development Corporation – 1988 to 1991, a Member of Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro – 1990 to 1993; and currently a Council member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) since 2006. He is the Chairman, Academy of Corporate Management [ACM] of the Nigerian Institute of Management [Chartered] [NIM].

Prof. LASISI was the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Federal Institution in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for two terms (1991 to 2000), and the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Private University, – Crescent University, Abeokuta (2005 to 2007). He was Chairman, Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities – 1996 to 1997. He is a Fellow of various professional bodies including Nigerian Society of Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, Nigerian Academy of Engineering and Nigerian Institute of Management; in addition to membership of many others. He has consulted for FAO and UNESCO.

Professor LASISI has been a committee member in the establishment of PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES including: Crescent University, Abeokuta; Fountain University, Osogbo; Caleb University, Imota; Proposed University of Offa; Proposed Ibrahim Inaolaji University, Ikire; Proposed University of Warri, Delta State; etc.

Prof. Fola LASISI is a COMMUNITY and FAMILY LEADER. He has been honoured in his home for helping young people to acquire QUALITATIVE EDUCATION and SERVES as Chairman of an ANNUAL PROGRAMME for raising FUNDS for SCHOLARSHIPS and IMPROVEMENT to COMMUNITY SCHOOL FACILITIES. He is happily MARRIED to Monica JoAnne nee[STILLS] and BLESSED with developed and well brought up CHILDREN.

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE) was established by statute in 1997 as a non-profit and non-governmental institution for the promotion of excellence in engineering training and practice to ensure the technological growth of Nigeria. The Academy is a national “Think Tank” for Engineering and Technology that provides leadership in national engineering and technological issues by conducting studies and research on relevant issues and making inputs to developmental policies at the highest possible level.
