Peugeot Automobile Nigeria, PAN launches the Shade Tree Youth Empowerment Initiative

Peugeot Automobile Nigeria, PAN has launched the Shade Tree Youth Empowerment Initiative (STYEI) in kaduna.  

STYEI is a Corporate Social Responsibility programme of PAN Nigeria, in collaboration with interested agencies and corporate bodies, who share the same aspirations of reducing poverty incidence and creating wealth among the teeming unemployed and under-employed youths in Nigeria.

The programme aims at providing a formalized operating for the largely loose, fragmented and unregulated auto mechanics across the country with a strong value proposition of adequate capitalization, training, organization and compliance with specified standards and business growth trajectory.

STYEI is currently conducting training for pioneer beneficiaries of the initiative at PAN Learning Center in Kaduna. The training is in four major areas of specialization: auto mechanics, auto mechatronics, auto spray painting as well as auto welding and panel beating.

The MD/CEO PAN Ibrahim Boyi, at the launching enthused that the company has always been at the forefront of automobile development in Nigeria, spanning decades.  He said that there have been changes in automotive industry in terms of fuel and parts, which has created skills gap in the industry.

“The STYEI is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).  It is targeted at closing skills gap in the automobile industry in the country,” he said.

The PAN CEO stressed that it would be funded through the Shade Tree Trust Fund, which is independent and funded by public organisations, private individuals and international development partners.

“The scheme will standardize primary automobile service centres, offer opportunities for economic empowerment,” he emphasized.

He explained that PAN through its world class learning centre has over the years been training altogether 1,200 youth, including 224 women.

He assured that within six months, with the grants they have received, alongside support from Peugeot Foundation, they will roll out no fewer than 30 Shade Tree Pilot Scheme Quick Auto Service Centres, which will subsequently be replicated all over the country, with rural areas also targeted.

Also speaking at the event Engr. John Aboje representing the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investments, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah  recalls that the ministry has developed an all inclusive industrial plan tagged ‘Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) to position and accelerate Nigeria’s industrial growth.

“NIRP designed to accelerate the industrial development through collaboration among government establishments, private sector and individuals.

The minister assured that government will collaborate with relevant stakeholders in implementation of the STYEI project.

“In the course of implementation of STYEI, it is recommended that the board of STYEI management should liase with NADDC and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) on capacity building. It is also important to inform you that FMITI is ever willing to support strat-ups/new business development in SMEs,” he stressed.

Also at the event, the NADDC Director General, Mr. Jelani Aliyu, MFR, who was special guest where he performed the task of launching the company’s Shade Tree Youth Empowerment Initiative (STYEI) amidst other very distinguished personalities in attendance.

Others in attendance are Immediate past president of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Otis Anyaeji, FNSE who is the Chairman Board of Trustee of the STYEI, Representative of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investments, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah,  Engr John Aboje, the director Engineering in the ministry; Engr. David Abu Ozigi representing the Director General of SMEDAN, Dr Umaru Radda, and Head Marketing PAN, Mrs, Shepuya Icha
