The National Engineering Conference, organised under the leadership of Engr Otis T. Anyaeji, in Abuja is still fresh in our mind with all its thrills and the excitements to be around for sometimes. Among the activities at the event was the Annual Group Dynamic competition organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
For the 2017, Osogbo Branch which was four years ago among the lowest performers but shot to limelight during the tenure of Engr Adeniran felix Ibitoye (Kilomodemo) as the Branch Chairman finally clinch first position. It was an electrifying moment as members celebrate this feat. Thus, the Trophy as the Best Branch of NSE in Nigeria goes to Osun State (Osogbo Branch) for the 2017/2018 Session.
Not far behind is NSE Ikeja Branch which narrowly lost to Osogbo by 0.4 points to come second among the 66 participants. The Port Harcourt Branch complete the top three as it clinches 3rd position.
Among the Divisions, the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, NSChE came first while the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, NICE and The Nigerian Institution of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, NIEEE who have shared the first and second position between themselves in recent memories came second and third respectively.
The idea behind the competition is to keep Branches and Divisions on their toes in a healthy competition nationwide.
With over 67 Branches and over 22 Divisions (each having dozens Branches and Chapters nationwide) the engineering community had grown into a huge family with diversity across board.
To keep them all serving members, the Group dynamic comes into play. It involves meeting a set of predetermined minimum performance index spread to cover areas such as the Professional Development , Workshops, Accountability, Membership Growth, vibrancy, young engineers development, impact on the community and host of others.
One feature of this edition is a sign of increasing importance accorded the competition by both branches and divisions. It is hope that this tempo is sustained and it’s impact spread to members.
Nigerian Society of Engineers runs its affairs nationwide through its 67 Branches while Divisions are saddled with the task of developing specialist programme for their area of interests.
Last Year, NSE Akure Branch won the competition in Uyo among Branches while the Nigerian Institution of Electrical Electronics Engineers, NIEEE was first. Read report HERE
