REGISTER AND START UP YOUR OWN COMPANY- ENGR BABAGANA MUHHAMAD

Engr. Babagana Mohammed,   a two-time Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE) and a Chief Engineer at the National Engineering and Technical Company(NETCO), an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) has challenged young and upcoming engineers to aim at becoming enterprenuers and register their own company.

He said this while speaking at the event organised by the NSE Victoria Island Branch where he was  Chairman between 2011 and 2013. The event, a Business and Career Mentorship programme at Bonny Camp Officers Mess was organised for Young and upcoming Engineers to break the jinx in unemployment and career challenges affecting the engineering profession currently being experienced in the country.

“Engineers must start employing themselves and stop expecting others to employ them”- Babagana Muhammed

He said that by registering their own private companies and starting business whether  employed as intrapreneurs or self reliant as entrepreneurs, the chance for positive result is higher than having to sit back and do nothing. He noted that as time has changed, the approach to business and career development has to change to match the paradigm shift.  “When you register your company,  you expose yourself to opportunities”, he said.

Engr. Babagana, a veteran engineer and Fellow of NSE and NImechE with over 30 years technical experiences encourage engineers to be deep in learning and acquiring expertise while mastering the arts of social intelligence and human relations as key tools in growing a business beyond the stereotype of dy/dx holding back most engineers from realizing their full potentials thereby having lawyers and  other professionals own more than 90% of engineering and construction companies which aught not to be.

“Engineers must start employing themselves and stop expecting others to employ them”. Only you can treat yourself better than anyone.  Young engineers need to start ingraining in their mindsets the dreams of being Chief Executive Officers someday not necessarily as happy employees alone.

His challenge was received with loud ovation by the engineers and attendance who appreciated his great efforts at mentoring countless number of young engineers,  offering opportunities to many in terms of employment and businesses, intervening in matters of engineering interests and investing in the profession generally.

“The Young Engineers Forum is great initiative that has the potentials of changing our stories from worries to glories”,  he added. He later adopted a number of young engineers for mentoring as he always does.

Engr. Babagana Mohammed is a two times Vice president of Nigerian Society of Engineers.  A Mechanical Engineer, he currently work with NNPC/NETCO as Senior Engineer. He has contributed to engineering in various capacities at local and national level and has won many awards. He is a Fellow of NSE and NIMechE.
