The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) was founded in mid 80s with Engr Prof. Alaba Akinseye, FNSE, as its pioneer National Chairman. It became a fully fledged Division of NSE around 1988. The Institution has since then grown to register a presence in all the Geopolitical zones of the country, with over 15 Chapters in the states as well as Students Chapters in Tertiary institutions across the country. Each of them have a meeting locations as well as dedicate programmes to serve the engineering community within their territory.
This move follows the similar movement of Nigerian Society of Engineers’ National Headquarters from Lagos to Abuja some years ago. Divisions of Engineering under the NSE, have since been advice to move their headquarters to the Federal Capital Territory.
The Institution however continues to function at Chapter Level in Lagos. Members in Lagos are endeavoured to attend and participate in Lagos activities as part of their professional development.
