The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE President, Engr Otis Anyaeji FNSE and the President, Council for the regulation of engineering in Nigerian, COREN, Engr Kashim Ali, FNSE, mni recently hold a join working meeting in Abuja headquarter of COREN when the former paid a courtesy visit to the Council. 
 
A lot of issues regarding development of engineering in Nigeria were tabled and discussed during the meeting while the two most important engineering bodies in the country pledged mutual corporation to move the profession forward. 
 
Among the Council members from the NSE at teh event were Engr Babagana Mohamed, Vice President, Engr (Mrs) Margaret Oguntala Vice President, Engr Masari Giandomenic FNSE, Engr Aishatu Umar, Engr Adeniran Ibitoye (Kilomodemo) and others. Also in attendance was the Executive Secretary Nigerian Society of Engineers, Dr Temidayo Obadimu FNSE.

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, was established by decree 55 of 1970 and amended by Decree 27 of 1992, now the “Engineers (Registration, etc) Act, CAP E11 of 2004” Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 


The Act empowered the Council to regulate and control the training and practice of engineering in Nigeria and to ensure and enforce the registration of all engineering personnel (i.e. Engineers, Engineering Technologists, Engineering Technicians, and Engineering Craftsmen) and consulting firms wishing to practice or engage in the practice of engineering.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers on other hand is the umbrella organization for the Engineering Profession in Nigeria. The Society looks after the professional needs of members through well structured programmes and regular interactions among the different cadre of membership, enhancing high professional standard and ethical practices. The Organisation was Founded on 16th February, 1958 and inaugurated at the Nigerian House in London. It has played vital roles over the years in the development of engineering and technology in the country.
