Encourage local content policy in engineering sector, Engr Olorunfemi, NSE President tasks FG

President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Ademola Olorunfemi, wants the Federal Government to implement the local content policy in the engineering sector particularly in contract awards.

Speaking at his maiden public appearance as 29th President of the NSE in Abuja on Tuesday Olorunfemi, said it was through patronage of firms owned by Nigerian engineers that the needed capacities and expertise can be built.
While lauding the Federal Government for the full implementation of local con¬tent in the oil and gas sector, he said much was yet to be done in the engineering sector.
According to him, Nigerians professionals have the required competencies to give value for money and can rob shoulder with their counterparts abroad.

Olorunfemi who formally assumed the headship of NSE on January 1 2014 explained that top on the agenda of his tenure would be rigorous pursue of local content in the engineering sector.
He said, “on the card is also a strong advocacy to our government to consider die Nigerian professional first in job placement or contracts award in the efforts to tackle our development and build sustainable capacity.
“As you are aware, the Nigerian Content Development Law 2010 was framed with the context of growth of Nigerian entrepreneurship and die domestication of assets to fully realise Nigeria’s strategic developmental goals. I plan to vigorously push through constructive advocacy, for the replication of this policy in all other sectors of our economy.”
Also on the front burner of his tenure, he further stated included the issue of non-accreditation of some engineering courses in some institutions and outright closure of Engineering Faculties.
