…NSE Abeokuta celebrates Mokuolu on his well deserved award.
The Immediate Past President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Adekunle Olumuyiwa Mokuolu, has been honoured as the 2019 Distinguished Old Boy by the Baptist Boys’ High School (BBHS) Old Boys Association (OBA) on Saturday 18th January, 2020 at the School Auditorium, Oke Saje Abeokuta.
Former Governor of Ogun State and 2006 Distinguished Old Boy, Otunba (Engr) Gbenga Daniel (OGD), presented the deserved award to Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, (1972 Set) and his beautiful wife, Deaconess Oluwayemisi Mokuolu.
Mr. Amos Olalere Ogunlowo (1955 Set), Mr Olusina Oliyide (1975 Set), Alhaji Sabur Adewunmi Adepoju (1976 Set), Mr. Olumide Jones (1986 Set) and Mr. Abiodun Olalekan Folarin (1993 Set) were other 2019 Old Boys Association merit award winners.
Annually, BBHS OBA honours one of her esteemed members who had demonstrated leadership and services in their chosen field with good proven track records in the society as Distinguished Old boy and five (5) others as merit award winners during her annual founders’ day Anniversary.
As the Branch of Immediate NSE Past President, the Abeokuta Branch of NSE joined Old Boys Association to felicitate with Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, on this epoch recognition of his selfless service by his alma mata, Old Boys Association and the Nation at large.
The branch was well represented by the Past Branch Chairman and 2006 Old Boys Association Merit Award Winner, Engr. M. O. Odesanya, , General Secretary, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, Publicity Secretary who is also Old Boy of BBHS, Engr. Ismail Adeyemi and Pa Engr. Ilori (Old Boy of BBHS). Also, the BBHS OBA, Abuja Branch of Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, were fully represented at the event.
Earlier before the Reunion luncheon where the award was presented, 2020 OBA Annual Congress was held where several reports on the school development and the association were carefully looked into.
Baptist Boys’ High School Abeokuta was founded in 23rd January 1923 and had prominent Nigerians as Old Boy including Former President Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, FNSE, Late Chief MKO Abiola GCFR among others.
The Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta is one of the oldest schools in Nigeria and renown for producing many distinguished personalities who are occupying leadership positions in all walks of life in the country. Founded on January 23, 1923 with motto “nulli Secondus” which means “Second to none”, it is often dubbed Best Secondary School in Nigeria.
The Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta has produced men like Engr. Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo a former military Head of State between 1976 and 1979, and elected President in 1999; Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the former Executive Governor of Ogun State; Bashorun Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola who won the June 12, 1993 presidential elections widely adjudged to be the freest and fairest election ever conducted in Nigeria but which was annulled by General Ibrahim Babangida. Chief Abiola. Even the late Sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo attended the BBHS although he did not finish from the school.
Other distinguished old boys of the school include the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Chief Bamidele Dada, the former Group Managing Director of NNPC, Engr. Funso Kupolokun, eminent jurist Prince Bola Ajibola, former deputy Governor of Central Bank, Chief Wole Oduyemi and the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade, former Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Tony Ojeshina, Chief Alani Bankole and his son, former speaker of the house of representative. Hon. Dimeji Bankole are all products of the school.
