The Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE) is organising 3-days workshop TITLED INNOVATIONS IN URBAN WATER SUPPLY, IRRIGATION AND SANITATION MANAGEMENT in collaboration with Techgrade Consulting.
The date and venue of the workshop are as follows:
Date: Tue 10th ‐ Thur 12th December, 2019
Venue: National Engineering Centre, Central Area, Abuja
Time: 9:00am ‐ 5:00pm daily
Fee: ₦85,000.00 per Participant
The constraints facing water supply and sanitation in Nigerian urban cities are enormous, including technical, management, financial, water wastage, infrastructure maintenance and rapid urbanisation, these factors and others are usually responsible for scarcity of potable water. Public water supply comprises a chain of activities including raw water sourcing, impoundment, treatment, distribution and waste prevention, while the effectiveness of urban sanitation is also dependent on availability of water. In order to overcome the constraints and achieve sustainability of urban water supply and sanitation, there is the need for Water Boards and water corporations to design innovative practices, which will enable them to achieve their set targets despite the challenges.
This workshop is aimed at introducing innovations in the management of water and
sanitation for urban towns and cities in Nigeria so that sustainable water supply and clean environments can be achieved. The workshop will present innovative solutions that have been used internationally to solve similar problems.
1. Sourcing for Urban Water Supply: the Options, Problems and Prospects
2. Planning, Operations and Maintenance of Water Supply Infrastructure
3. Modern Techniques of Water Treatment
4. Challenges of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants
5. Planning, Operations & Maintenance of Irrigation Structures and Appurtenances
6. Water wastage and Modern Preventive Techniques
7. Urban Water Distribution Systems and Measures for Improving Effectiveness
8. Public sector participation in urban water supply
9. Improved Management of Water Supply and Sanitation in Era of Climate Change
OBJECTIVE OF THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will be interactive with participants and the facilitators sharing
experiences during discussion sections. In addition, there will be case studies and
exercises individually and syndicate sessions to aid clear understanding of the
presentations and the ideas being communicated.
