At the ASHRAE- Nigeria monthly meeting held at Four Points by Sheraton on the 17th of September, 2019 with the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, National Chairman, Engr. Dr. Robinson I. Ejilah, FNIMechE in attendance on invitation.

The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, hereafter, designated as NIMechE is a federally instituted body of Mechanical Engineers; and that;

In line with American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc (ASHRAE)-in-Diversity pursuits of forming relationship with relevant local societies and in recognition of your drive towards similar course of creating a formidable tie between both association as witnessed by various earlier meetings with members of our Board of Governors, we hereby summarize the minutes on the ASHRAE-NIMechE Memorandum of Understanding as taken by Engr. Tunde Ogunde below:

a) That ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter will nominate a representative that will be on the Council of NIMechE – On the spot, based on all criteria, the Board of Governors present therein agreed that Engr. Abdulrahman Usman, MNIMechE (ASHRAE Nigeria Immediate Past President was nominated to represent in same regards).

b) That NIMechE representative will also be on the Board of Governors of ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter.

c) For both (a) and (b), it was agreed that both nominations be committed members of the two bodies. Therefore it was emphasized that:
i. Members of NIMechE are encouraged to enlist for ASHRAE’ membership ; and that
ii. Qualified members of ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter should be equally encouraged to enlist for NIMechE’s membership.
iii. Only people with membership of both associations will be nominated to occupy vacancies available for any collaborative office(s).
iv. That Mechanical Engineering graduates obtain ASHRAE certification via recognized continuous professional development hours to be agreed by the parties.
v. That practising Engineers as well as others working in the HVAC Industry nationwide get their license renewed through approved CPD points based on some ASHRAE courses to be agreed with RAL and ASHRAE Leadership

The collaboration between the two bodies which takes immediate effect comes with the idea of fostering International recognition of Nigerian Mechanical Engineering graduates, and up-skilling of HVAC practitioners in Nigeria.
