NIMechE Poly Ibadan president, Mufutau Olalekan emerges second in the Interfaculty Speech Competition

It was a battle of words on 28th August at Assembly Hall North campus as Junior chamber international, The polytechnic of Ibadan pitched faculties together during it organised inter Faculty Speech Competition on campus.

The Speech Competition was organised to promote literary activities among students on campus. The competition was in two stages- essay and debate. The debate was the Grand finale.

10 Students from five faculties representing each Faculty of financial management studies, Faculty of science, Faculty of environmental science, Faculty of business and communication studies and faculty of Engineering.

The debate topics are “Will ruga Settlement bring an end to insurgency in Nigeria” while the second topic is “Social media have more disadvantage than advantages for Students”

At the end of the competition, the Faculty of science clinched first position, Faculty of Engineering second, while financial management studies came Third.

The NIMechE-NSF, the polytechnic of Ibadan chapter president Comrade Mufutau Olalekan Yussuf represented Faculty of Engineering and clinched the second position.

When approached during press briefing after the event, Comrade Mufutau expressed his reason for participating in the competition: “Partaking in this literally inter-faculty speech contest is based on the desire to clear the erroneous thought and conclusion from the other faculties that we Engineering students have no zeal to literary activities. Though, we aimed for the top position but we came out second in the competition”

He however said “It’s a privilege that a representative from Electrical Engineering and myself represented Faculty of engineering from Mechanical engineering and I’m glad we brought glory to Faculty of Engineering.” He added

Meanwhile, Mr Rasaq a student from Faculty of science expressed surprised that engineering Faculty could go far contrary to general expectations. In his word, he said ” I’m glad my Faculty came first. But what surprised me most is the fact that despite stereotype of engineering students(regarding literary activities) on this campus, they still claim the second.

“This is a welcome development to see science and engineering student performing well in literally activities of this magnitude”
