NIMechE PARTNERS WITH UNIDO TO ACCELERATE INDUSTRIALIZATION AND POVERTY REDUCTION IN NIGERIA

NIMechE National Chairman Dr Ejilah RObinson

In a very recent development, United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has accepted to partner with the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) to fast-track the pace of industrialization in Nigeria.

This cheery news was confirmed in UNIDO’s response to NIMechE’s earlier communication vide NIMechE/NC/ COLAB/01/19 and dated 24th July, 2019 requesting for its hand in partnership to address the myriad of challenges confronting Nigerian mechanical engineers.

In his response the UNIDO Representative to ECOWAS and Regional Director, Nigeria Regional Office Hub, Mr Jean Bakole, did convey his organisation’s willingness to partner with NIMechE on programmes that are well aligned with the new ‘Country Programme 2018-2022’ with the aim of supporting the Nigerian Government’s effort to accelerate sustainable industrialization for economic growth and poverty reduction.

NIMechE is indeed enthused by this new development, and remains hopeful that the partnership will open up a flood gate of training opportunities for technical and human capacity development of its members, and also enhance the employability of young mechanical engineering graduates.
