NICE paid Courtesy Visit to NSE President, Decried proliferation of Divisions and sought Supports on Codes and Standards

The executive council of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, NICE, led by Engr Aishatu Umar, recently paid a courtesy visit to Engr Adekunle Muokolu, President Nigerian Society of Engineers at the National Engineering Centre Abuja. The issues of crucial importance to civil engineering development were discussed and areas of supports also tabled,

Among the issues discussed with the President includes Proliferation of Divisions in NSE. In Civil alone we have NICE, NIStructE, Water, Highways, Geotechnics all awarding Fellows.

Other issues are the urgent need to produce the Nigerian Standard Codes Standards in analysis and design of concrete and steel structures which is a capital intensive project that requires support of the Federal Government and other stake holders in the built environment; the incessant building collapse in the country and the need to partner with NICE in the implementation of the recommendations to control the menace.

The Chairman also revealed the Division’s introduction of NICE chapter group dynamics among many others.

Engr Aishatu, who is the first female and northern National chairman of NICE, recalled that the present Executive Committee of NICE was elected at the last AGM of the Institution of Civil Engineers held at Calabar international Convention Center Calabar Cross River State on 26th October 2018. Since then the National Exco has been working with vigour and dynamism to launch NICE to an enviable level.

The National Chairman used the opportunity to inform the NSE President that she has fulfilled her promise during her investiture to move the Secretariat of the Institution from Lagos to Abuja by establishing the NICE Secretariat at 8th Floor Labour House Abuja.The Lagos office will now serve as liaison office .

Engr Umar expressed her delight at the many strides the President is making at the National Engineering Centre Abuja especially with regards to speedy completion of the phase 2 of the NEC building.

On behalf of NICE council she presented award of Excellence to the president, who is also a Civil Engineer, for his quality leadership and also for being worthy Ambassador of NICE.

On his part the President congratulated the National Chairman for the modest achievements recorded within few months of her leadership. he specifically mentioned the efforts at securing a befitting Secretariat for the Institution at the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, having operated from Lagos since its founding.

He promised to partner with NICE in some areas of interest especially intervention in the incessant building collapse in Nigeria, codes and standard development for civil engineering and others. He also commended other initiatives by the division

Present at the courtesy visit include Engr Alex Okpi Momoh, NSE Executive Secretary, Engr K. Amshi, former NSE ES,Engr Margret Oguntala, former Vice president of NSE, Engr Jang C Tanko FNSE NICE Deputy National Chairman, Engr Kelani Dawood, Engr Jerome Egbe and Council member Engr Yakubu Garba .

Meanwhile the Institution had commissioned its new headquarters situated in Abuja

NICE paid Courtesy Visit to NSE President, Decried proliferation of Divisions and sought Supports on Codes and StandardsOn Monday 1st July 2019,the President, Nigerian Society of Engineers Engr Adekunle Muokolu led a team of NSE leadership to officially commission the new Secretariat of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers. The new Secretariat which now serves as NICE headquarter was opened for business on 1st June 2019.

It is located at 8th Floor Labour house Central Business District Abuja. Present at the commissioning ceremony includes NSE Vice Presidents Engr Tasiu Wudil , and Engr Joseph Akinteye ,the NSE Executive Secretary Engr. Alex Okpi Momoh ,the immediate Past NICE Abuja Chapter Chairman Engr Ben Osy Okoh,the current Abuja Chapter Chairman Engr Dominic Akuboh,  among many others.The President showered accolades on Engr Mrs Aishatu Aliyu Umar the National Chairman and the entire NICE leadership for achieving this great feat within so short time of her administration.
