On the 12th of July 2019, The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers- National Students Forum, Lagos State University Students Chapter (LASU-SC) was inaugurated. The inauguration ceremony commenced shortly after 2.00 pm, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island-Lagos. The National Membership and Services Secretary, Engr. Francis I. Azuka anchored the event. The NIMechE-NSF President, Lawal Oluwaseun Richard, gave a brief history of the student forum, and encouraged student members to align themselves with the lofty vision of NIMechE, and give their maximum support to the Institution and Students Forum.
The Lagos State Chapter Chairman, Engr. Olusegun Fadeyi, welcomed the students into the body and promised to assist them with IT placements and any other assistance in his capacity. The enthused Chairman was heard to have remarked “We are ready for you”, before proceeding with the formal inauguration ceremony of the Lagos State University Students Chapter (LASU SC) of the Institution. The NSF President then inaugurated the LASU SC Presidents, and the newly sworn-in President went ahead to inaugurate his executive committee members amidst cheers and jubilation.
The National Chairman, Engr. Dr. Robinson I. Ejilah in his speech, inspired the students with a brief history of mechanical engineering. He extolled the virtues of his predecessors for their lofty vision, which saw to the formation of NIMechE- National Student Forum about 6 years ago. He remarked that, this laudable initiative placed NIMechE as the first Professional Engineering Institution (PEI) amongst the existing 25 PEIs, with a well-organized professional student body.
Notwithstanding, the recorded achievements, he said ‘the coming on stream of the NIMechE-NSF had saddled the parent institution with the responsibility of professional mentorship, providing opportunity for networking, exposing student to leadership and service responsibilities, fostering good citizenship amongst them, and helping out with job raising and internship opportunities’. The National Chairman in his words was heard to have said ‘it is our responsibility to nurture these young minds to become future technology leaders’.
The NIMechE National Chairman admonished the students to be of good conduct in all their dealings, and avoid anything that will bring the name of NIMechE and LASU to disrepute.
The NIMechE Deputy National Chairman, Engr. Prof. Mohammed B. Ndaliman, congratulated the student for the successful event. He noted the laudable achievements of NIMechE-NSF, and called for its sustenance and continuation. He also encouraged the students to be proud representative of NIMechE, because they are the future of the mechanical engineering profession.
Engr.Mrs. Funmi Akingbagboun also encouraged the students to apply the SMART principle in all their dealings, and urge them to strive for success always.
The staff adviser of the newly inaugurated Students Chapter, Engr. Fadipe gave a good will message on behalf of the LASU. He thanked NIMechE for the honor done to LASU. He encouraged his students to reciprocate the trust and confidence reposed on them by NIMechE. He urged them to be of good behavior at all time as they stand gain a lot by associating with NIMechE.
This inauguration brings the number of Student Chapter to 30 across the country. The occasion was subsequently brought to an end with the closing formalities typical of such event.
