NSE brings Israeli Development expert to share economic development tricks as it Honours Ife Akintunde

All is but set for the second edition of the Ife Akintunde Annual Lecture which is being put together by Nigerian Society of Engineers, Oluyole Branch in honour of the Africa’s first winner of WFEO Medal of Excellence, Engr. Ifedayo Akintunde.
And the event which is now in its second edition will hold at the international conference centre, University of Ibadan on July 3rd 2019 and start at 10.00am. The Theme of the event is “Economic Development Based on Israeli Experience: Lessons to Nigerian” : with the internationally renowned Israeli expert, Dr Joseph Shevel expected to deliver the keynote address.

Leading the list of dignitaries expected at the event is Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, NSE President, Engr Adekunle Mokuolu, HRH Engr Otis Oliver Anyaeji, Obi Obahu Okija and the president West African Federation of Engineering Organisations, HRH Oba Saliu Adetunji, The Olubadan of Ibadanland and host of other dignitaries.

The event which started last year was instituted to serve as a platform for exploring national development policies and fashion solutions to national challenges. Last year edition focused on the raging Herdsmen-Famers clash and provided solutions to the menace.

Initiated to honour one of the finest engineers from Nigeria and the first winner of WFEO medal of Excellence from Africa, Engr Ife Akintunde, the second edition aims at looking at Israeli Development and lessons Nigeria can learn on its path towards industrialisation.

About the guest speaker, Dr Joseph Shevel
Dr Joseph Shevel holds BA, MA and PhD degrees from the Hebrew University (Israel) and New York University (US) in Geography, History, Economics and Management. He is the Founding President of Galilee International Management Institute; a Former lecturer at the University of Haifa, Department of Economics and Director of the Department of Management Studies, University of Haifa (ED), a Former lecturer at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) and Bar Ilan University, Israel.
He has served as a member of the Prime Minister’s Committee on Social Policy; Member of the Environmental Committee of the Haifa Region (under the auspices of the Israel Ministry of Energy) and Director and Coordinator of several joint European–Mediterranean networks in the field of management and economic development. Associate at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. Senate member of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), established in Slovenia under the auspices of the European Union.
A frequent guest lecturer and keynote speaker at the Vibrant Gujarat bi-annual conference in India, speaker at Moscow State University and much invited guest lecturer on economic and social development through higher education, climate change and the Israeli start-up experience at many leading universities in Africa (including Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso). He is a Board Member of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN).
He actively works towards peace-making in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. He is a member of the East African Security Forum since 2012 and an active member of the Asian University President Forum since 2005. He Presented lectures at the forum’s meetings in Bangkok (2006) and in Korea (2005). He is also a senior member of the Mediterranean Peace Forum (Lecce, Italy), led delegations and discussions between Palestinians and Israelis in an effort to reach a peace agreement. He has lectured at the United Nations University – Leadership Academy in Amman (Amman University) on leadership, management and the economic prospects in the Middle East following the peace agreement. Active member of the World Public Forum – Dialogue of Civilisations.
