Abu Salami becomes Vice President, Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture

Engr. Abu Salami, a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institution of mechanical Engineers, have been elected as the Vice President, Finance and Professional Practice of the Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA).

Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) is an association of entrepreneurs with a common goal of protecting and improving the business environment of Kwara State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

The Chamber was established in 1965 and is a member of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and through it, affiliated to the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce (FWACC), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris. Its membership strength is above 500 companies and are spread across various Trade Group

Engr Abu Salami was born in a Gold Mining town of Prestea in the Western Region of Ghana on April 12, 1956 to Late Alhaji AbdulSalami Aremu (a trader and a philanthropist) & Alhaja Aishat Asande Abdul Salami (a Princess of the Soun dynasty in Ogbomoso).

His academic sojourn covers: Prestea Anglican Middle School, Ghana (WAEC Middle Sch. Leaving Certificate), Cape-Coast Technical Institute Ghana (City & Guilds intermediate Certificate), Kwara State College Of Technology, Ilorin (National Diploma), Kwara State College Of Technology, Ilorin. (Higher National Diploma), University Of Ilorin, Ilorin (Masters in Business Administration MBA), University of Ilorin. Ilorin ( Masters in Mechanical Engineering, M.Eng.)

His working career covers both Nigeria and Ghana and some of them are: Prestea Goldfields Ltd., Ghana- Mining Mechanical Technician, Cape Coast CFAO Motors, Ghana. Nigerian Paper Mill Limited., Jebba – Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor; NEGRIS Energy System & Support Port Harcourt – Field Mechanical Engineer; ExxonMobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited; Senior Mechanical Technician, QIT Mechanical Maintenance Workshop/ OSO Condensate Platform; Manager, Technical Services in Global Real Estates & Facilities (GREF) Department; Manager, Residential Operations, in Global Real Estates & Facilities (GREF); Advisor, Global Real Estates & Facilities (GREF) 2015 – April, 2016 when he retired. Engr Abu Salami is registered engineer with Council for the Registration of Engineering in Nigeria and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He is also a member of the Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies; Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineer (NiMechE); Member, Institute Of Facility Management Association (IFMA); Member, National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA); Member, Association of Hajj & Ummrah Tour Operators of Nigeria (AHOUN) and host of others.

He served in various capacities at the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Victoria Island Branch and rose to become its Chairman. He also served as the National Vice Chairman, Engineering Regulation and Monitoring (ERM) (2014-2015). At national level, he also served as Member, National Conference Planning Committee 2009; Member, Division Group Dynamics Committee 2010 – 2014; Member, Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary 2012 – 2014; Member, NSE Presidential Committee on Petroleum Subsidy 2015; Member, Board of Fellows, Nigerian Society of Engineers 2017 till Date

Between 2012 and 2018, he sponsored the Division’s Group Dynamics Award 2012- 2018.

He joined other fellows of NSE as part of response to the challenge of creating platform to give experience to young engineers and also empower senior engineers to form GIGAPLUS, an Engineering Company and he is currently among the Board of Directors.

As a result of his many activities he has been honoured by various organisations both within and outside engineering community. Among the honours are: The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Lagos Branch Award for Excellence 2011; Lagos Chapter of Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers Award for Meritorious Service to the Society and Humanity 2011; The Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (national) Special Award for Meritorious Service to the Society 2012; NASFAT Meritorious Service Award as World President,

Outside of engineering, Abu Salami left no stone un-turn as he served both community and his immediate constituency. Among them are: Member, Board Of Trustees Fountain University, Oshogbo 2007 – 2008; Member, Governing Council Fountain University, Oshogbo 2008 – 2010; Member. Board of Trustee of HALAL Standards and Development Trust (HASDAT) 2016 till Date; Member, Elders Forum, Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaiye 2017 – Till Date; Zainul-Islam of Ogbomosoland (Pride of Islam of Ogbomosoland) 2004 Till date; The Coordinator, Islamic Welfare Foundation, Kwara State Branch. 1993 – 2002; World President of NASFAT 2007 – 2011; Member, Special Committee for Islamic Affairs in Ogbomosoland 2008-Till Date; Secretary, NASFAT National Council of Elders July 6, 2014 – 2019; National Coordinator, Islamic Welfare Foundation- Effective May 1, 2019 till Date.

A politically active engineer who has associated with Nigeria’s major parties, he contested for House of Representative for Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South & Oriire Federal Constituency 2019 under Zenith Labour Party.

For this and many others he was selected as one of the ICONS among the Sons and Daughters of Ogbomosoland. 2017 Till Date.

And now Vice President, Finance and Professional Practice of the Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA).
