NSE Decries Neglect By Govt

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has lamented poor recognition by successive administrations in Nigeria, a situation which has not been favourable to the development of the practice of engineering profession in the country.

The NSE chairman, Abuja chapter, Engineer Yakubu Ali Garba, stated this yesterday while speaking during a courtesy visit with five other members of the society to the corporate headquarters of LEADERSHIP Group in Abuja.

He said, “We would like a collaboration with your organisation for issues that concern the engineering sector to be made public just like other sectors. A lot of people do not know whom to meet for advice in building and construction; such people end up engaging quacks.

“You will recall that in most recent times, the issue of building collapse has reduced due to our monitoring of activities. The people need to know all these things and it is the media that can reach out to the people”.

Garba lamented that Nigerian engineers do not receive adequate attention from the government, citing cases where expatriates with lower academic qualifications are placed as superiors over Nigerian engineers with higher qualification and better training.
